A community of support – Herefordshire Community Foundation & NMITE
We’re privileged in Herefordshire to have a community of residents who are passionate about the area. The Herefordshire Community Foundation was formed in 2002 to implement grant making projects to help local businesses and communities. Whilst this is still the main function, the Foundation has also found overwhelming support offered via donations from local people, businesses and families who have connections to the area who want to give something back. By connecting these donors to good local causes, the Foundation has awarded over £8 million worth of grants since its formation, supporting initiatives such as sports, the environment, arts, physical and mental health. Initiatives like the Community Foundation are making Herefordshire a desirable county to live and work in.
We set up in Herefordshire to offer a wider range of STEM qualifications in the county, but equally because it’s a great place to work. There’s a real can-do spirit amongst the businesses around here, leading to innovation.

Preparing Engineers for the workplace with NMITE
NMITE (New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering) is a new university established here in Hereford, equipped to provide degree level engineering and technology qualifications. James Newby formed NMITE in Herefordshire due to the real “can do” spirit amongst businesses within the area. Partnerships with local businesses have been instrumental in NMITE’s ability to deliver their programmes, allowing students to do on-site workshops, getting real hand experiences. In turn, NMITE is recruiting students from across the country, bringing their talent into the area.
