Herefordshire: The international hub.
Herefordshire’s name originates from the Saxon word “Army ford”. So it’s no wonder that when a group of ex-military medics formed Iqarus in 2007, they chose to found their company base here in Herefordshire.
The organisation found an opportunity to provide remote medical support, equipment and training to media, expeditionary, military security and humanitarian organisations. Often cited as a rural town tucked out of the way, Iqarus have found Herefordshire a convenient home for finding diverse clients.
With resources from the South Wye Development Trust, Iqarus didn’t have to go far to find a strong community of ex-military individuals residing within the area. The development trust supports marginalised communities here in Herefordshire, who help find people in the community with the high level of skills required to run their workshops and training programmes.
We could get to an airport faster from here [Herefordshire] than we could from the wrong side of London. Basing Iqarus in Herefordshire provides us with that happy mix of a rural lifestyle with convenience.
Iqarus
Quick travel in Herefordshire
With good rail and road links to major UK cities such as Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff, Iqarus found they can travel to a UK-based airport quicker than if they were based in and around London. Citing that they can also get to London faster than people could get across the capital, this supports the choice to move to Herefordshire for other businesses who want the success of a city brand, without the hustle and bustle.
